The technology of waterjet cutting stems from the process of water erosion, which takes place in nature. Cutting process occurs as a result of water-spray with solid abrasive particles streaming to the material under ultra-high pressure.
The advantages of waterjet cutting over traditional types of machining work as well as over other modern technologies, such as plasma-arc and laser cutting, allow you:
- To minimize material wastage by reducing the kerf width the stream diameter is 0.5 mm -1.5mm, depending on the type of nozzle used and the mixing tubes (in comparison, the milling machine cutting width ranges from 5 to 10 mm). The cut can be made on any spot along the outline and of any complexity.
- No heat effected zones or mechanical stresses are left on a waterjet cut surface, so the physical and mechanical characteristics of the material remain unchanged.
- The process of waterjet cutting is absolutely clean and fireproof.
- The thickness range of the in-process materials ranges from 0.1 to 300 mm and wider.

- automatic optimization of the cutting speed is adjusted individually for each item, taking into account the thickness and the type of the material, as well as the specified requirements to the quality of the cutting edge.
The critical characteristic of any waterjet cutting which determines the final cost of the in-process material is the cutting speed. The quality of the in-process surface depends on the cutting speed, the slower the speed, the higher the quality of the surface.
Broadly speaking, there are three types of machined surface quality.
- Poor quality of the cut is used when there are no special requirements to the quality of the processed surface; it is also suitable for creating a rough outline of the work piece.
- The average quality of the cut allows you to create good quality edges and to produce the in-process material within tight timeframes. This type of the cut is 60% slower than the previous one. When processing metals, such surfaces are suitable for welding without additional processing.
- High quality cutting. This type of the cut provides the highest accuracy of the surface dressing, with all the necessary radius zones and chamfers. It is perfect for art cut of steel and stone as well as for those parts requiring high precision.
